Recalls, Specs & Safety Report

Expert Verdict
âš ī¸Elevated Concerns

The 2023 Ford Maverick exhibits a concerning reliability profile, with numerous recalls primarily affecting critical systems such as exterior lighting and powertrain. The peak failure range indicates that many issues may arise early in ownership, warranting careful attention from current owners.

Key Factor:Significant safety recall count

📋Why This Matters

The presence of 19 recalls for the 2023 Ford Maverick raises serious safety concerns, particularly for families with children who are often passengers in the rear seats. Deficiencies in critical systems such as exterior lighting can impair visibility and communication with other drivers, while powertrain issues pose risks of unexpected failures that could endanger everyone in the vehicle. Affected components such as taillights not illuminating correctly or engine compartment fire risks directly threaten passenger safety, making these recalls not just inconvenient but potentially hazardous.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I believe the OEM 12v battery that is used in the Ford Maverick hybrid is underpowered and has issues that seem to plague the vehicle. I’ve owned the truck for almost two years now and started getting “battery saver” alerts when the truck would sit for a few days over the week or during a vacation. But recently I’ve been getting the warning far more frequently and not even siting for more than 24 hours. Last month I had a warning that the power could turn off at any moment and need to pull over immediately. The warning went away after powering the vehicle down and turning back on. Last weekend the car was completely dead after using it all week and only letting it sit Saturday evening to Monday morning. The battery seems to be an issue that plagues the vehicle and I think an investigation needs to be conducted to have this corrected. I even see new 2025 models having similar issues.

Body/InteriorđŸ”ĩ Low
STRUCTURE

Vehicle drivers front door is very hard to operate, very hard to shut, window wont roll all the way down. Vehicle makes popping noise when operating drivers front door. Door wont close all the way at times due to door check binding inside of door. Ford has had a customer satisfaction service repair for Escape model vehicles with similar problems. Ford reference for this action is 23B56. Due to the door not being able to close properly this vehicle will require repair and the vehicle taken out of service because it is not safe to drive with the door not latching properly. The spot welds are broken away from the door causing the door check and mounting bracket to be pushed into the door when closing, this causes the door to not be properly latched.

Safety SystemsđŸ”ĩ Low
AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS

The seat belt system is faulted and is showing the airbag light is on, when started it shows a red question mark on the drivers seat. Also shows a rear seat fault.

POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I took my vehicle in to have the transmission looked at. The dealership told me that the problem was resolved. While driving down the road the transmission went into park in the middle of a two lane road. When the vehicle came to a complete stop I was stopped in the middle of the lane and the vehicle transmission would not shift out of park. After getting it to another shop where it is currently located I was informed that the transmission needs to be replaced and that this is a problem that they are seeing in several Ford vehicles. I contacted Ford who stated that there are no current recalls for this problem. Obvious safety concerns are not being able to control the vehicle when it shifts to park while driving as well as being stopped in the middle of the roadway where a collision is likely.

CV axles failed at 30,000 miles, repaired under warranty. Replaced axles have failed again at 60,000 miles, no warranty. No hard driving, simply highway miles. This seems to be common in these vehicles and need to be recalled for defective parts. This has caused me poor fuel mileage, damage to new tires, instability while driving, and possible unknown damage to transaxle.

I have previously had the backup camera recall repaired/updated the software and it worked fine for awhile. This week I had it freeze up on me and almost cause me to back end to another vehicle

STEERING

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and upon attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel seized with the “Power Steering Assist Fault” message displayed. The contact was able to pull over on the side of the road. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. Steering/SuspensionđŸ”ĩ Low
STEERING

I purchased the 2023 ford maverick xlt with about 12,000 miles in may, right from the start I started having problems with the steering freezing up, almost hit a wall exiting the freeway, a few times it happened close to my house, it happens without warning, the warning "steering assist fault service required"comes up on dashboard , I have gone to the dealer a few times, the first time they said they had taken care of it, but I drove the truck after and later the steering froze up again, I took it in again and they said it was the steering column, it had a internal fault, so I left the vehicle there and next day they called me that the vehicle was ready, so I drove it home which is about eight miles from the dealer, no sooner had I was about to turn in the driveway that the steering froze on me, I borrowed my wife's car and went to the dealer told them what happened and the manager said to take it in again so they could check it , but I told the manager that I couldn't because iam afraid to drive the truck for my safety and other innocent people, so my truck sits in my driveway unable to drive it.

Engine/PowertrainđŸ”ĩ Low
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE

While driving on the highway at normal speed in normal conditions, I suddenly lost ABS, traction control, downhill assist, hold assist, AdvanceTrac, Cruise control, and a severe reduction of power. The engine went into limp mode and would not rev past 3k RPM. This made driving on the highway very dangerous as I could not keep up speed and risked getting rear-ended. The wrench icon came on, as well as ABS and traction control. Cruise control would not work. Messages appeared stating "Service engine soon", "Service AdvanceTrac", "Downhill assist issue", "Hold assist issue", and a few more I can't recall. Sometimes they go away on its own and the vehicle works fine, sometimes restarting the vehicle clears the issue. The issues will appear randomly, sometimes very soon after starting the car and driving, sometimes 100 miles later.
