2025 RAM 5500

Recalls, Specs & Safety Report

Expert Verdict
⚠️Elevated Concerns

The 2025 RAM 5500 presents a mixed bag with two significant recalls targeting critical areas such as the electrical system and airbag functionality. While it may have a clean complaint sheet, these recalls indicate potential risks that owners should take seriously.

Key Factor:Airbag and electrical issues

πŸ“‹Why This Matters

The recalls on the RAM 5500 are particularly alarming because they involve systems vital to driver safety. The airbag and restraint control module software issue could prevent deployment in a crash, which poses serious risks during accidents. Additionally, the electrical system recall affecting the instrument cluster could lead to confusion on the road, especially if warning indicators are rendered useless due to a blank display. These issues not only jeopardize safety but could also lead to costly repairs if not addressed swiftly.

Summary: Overall, the reliability of the 2025 RAM 5500 isn't as solid as one might hope given its brand reputation. The presence of multiple recalls suggests that FCA has some engineering concerns to iron out compared to previous models, which typically had fewer critical issues.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Ram 1500 Pickup, Ram 2500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Ram Cab Chassis, and Ram 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles. A software error may cause the instrument panel cluster display to be blank. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems," 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems," and 102, "Transmission shift lever sequence, starter interlock, and transmission braking effect."

Consequence

An instrument panel display that does not show critical information, such as warning lights or gear selection, increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and update the instrument panel software or replace the instrument panel cluster, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 8, 2026. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's numbers for this recall are B4C and B8C. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning December 4, 2025.

AIR BAGS: AIR BAG/RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE

Summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2025 Ram 2500 Pickup, 3500 Pickup, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis trucks. A software error in the occupant restraint controller module may cause the driver's side air bag and/or seat belt pretensioner not to deploy in a crash and disable the electronic stability control (ESC) system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 208, "Occupant Crash Protection" and 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."

Consequence

Driving with a disabled electronic stability control system increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, a driver's side air bag or seat belt pretensioner that does not deploy increases the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will update the occupant restraint controller module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 15, 2026. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is C3C.
