2024 NISSAN Rogue

Recalls, Specs & Safety Report

Expert Verdict
⚠️Elevated Concerns

The 2024 Nissan Rogue demonstrates a mixed reliability profile, primarily due to recalls related to the back over prevention system and engine component defects. Given the peak failure range occurring within the first 20,000 miles, potential buyers should approach with caution.

Key Factor:Recall-related engine issues

📋Why This Matters

Defects identified in the back over prevention system can significantly impact safety during reverse maneuvers, potentially leading to accidents. Additionally, issues with engine bearings pose risks of sudden engine failure, which can be both costly and hazardous. Such recalls indicate areas where the manufacturer must improve and serve as critical warning signs for prospective buyers.

BACK OVER PREVENTION

Summary

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Rogue and 2025 INFINITI QX80 vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Consequence

The loss of the rearview camera image while in reverse can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

The in-vehicle infotainment software will be updated by an over-the-air (OTA) software update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 2, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or INFINITI's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R24B3 and R24B4.

Additional Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to nhtsa.gov.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:HARD PARTS INTERNAL/MECHANICAL

Summary

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.

Consequence

Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.

Remedy

Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed August 25, 2025. A second letter is expected to be mailed December 4, 2025. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25A8/A9 and R25B1/B2.

On 12/16/25 at approximately 6:30am central time, the rear back glass spontaneously shattered while driving to work. The outside temperature was below 30 degrees causing some frost build up. I turned on the rear defrost, and within a few minutes, I heard a loud pop and then a cracking, crumbling like noise and looked back to see the glass was completely shattered.

Rear windshield/window spontaneously shattered and then fell apart after remote-starting in freezing (below 32⁰F) temperatures. I have photos. Nissan says there's nothing they can do (even with the expensive bumper to bumper warranty we paid for). If this had happened while we were driving my family could've been hurt by flying glass.
