2024 HYUNDAI Kona

Recalls, Specs & Safety Report

Expert Verdict
⚠️Elevated Concerns

The 2024 Hyundai Kona exhibits concerning reliability due to multiple recalls affecting critical safety components, especially impacting the rear seat belts and electrical systems. Given the average failure mileage of just over 7,000 miles, these issues could pose significant risks for families with children in the back seat.

Key Factor:Multiple safety recalls noted

📋Why This Matters

The identified defects in the 2024 Hyundai Kona's seat belts and electrical systems are particularly alarming, especially for families. Seat belts are crucial for passenger safety, and malfunctions in rear seat belt assemblies could jeopardize the protection of children during a crash. Furthermore, electrical faults that may result in short circuits pose additional safety hazards that could impact vehicle operation during a critical moment. A lack of proper functioning in these areas compromises the effectiveness of one of the vehicle's most essential safety features: occupant protection. This is especially concerning for younger passengers who rely heavily on dependable restraint systems to keep them secure.

Approaching stop sign and tried to break and the breaks failed causing an accident and the vehicle to go into a ditch. Witness reported seeing my break lights but the vehicle did not slow down at all even when the break was pushed to the floor.

The dashboard lights, HUD and exterior lights all have been turning off for 4-5 seconds every 6-8 weeks for the last 14-15 months. The brake and accelerometer remain active but because of the situation it presents every time, all that can be done is stray straight and try to look for a safe lane change.

The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Kona. The contact stated that the vehicle was equipped with alarms set to sound off and send a text notification when the vehicle was accessed without the key, key fob, or remote access being activated. Later, the vehicle began displaying additional electrical issues. The contact stated that the instrument panel would illuminate intermittently and display different warnings and systems being activated; however, the contact was unable to recall what the lights that were displayed. While driving on a forked road, the Lane Assist feature prevented the vehicle from being able to veer left, keeping the vehicle driving straight. The contact used excessive force to steer the vehicle to veer towards the left. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired for any electrical failures. The contact received notice of a recall for the software regarding the Theft Prevention system, needing a software update. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, and the remedy was completed. While attempting to accelerate after being idle at a red light, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact turned off the vehicle, waited for a while, and then restarted the vehicle, at which time the contact was able to continue driving. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, who diagnosed that the software update caused the battery to drain quickly. The battery was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer opened two cases for the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 9,500.

While at a light, the auto stop/start kicked on but when it was time to start driving again and I pressed the gas pedal, the car would not move. There was a long beep and then the check battery icon and an alert came on my dash board stating “Auto Stop is Off. Shift to P or N and start engine manually.” When I turned off the ignition and restarted the car, the alert went off but two additional icons showed up on my dash board- check engine and check oil. Then my steering wheel locked up and I could not press on the breaks or gas pedal. I could not operate my car for more than 30 minutes.

A few different days over the past few months. Driving heated seats stopped working. Check engine warning light on intermittently. Key fob not working. Multiple error codes stored in system cleared by dealer. shut down the car screen has stayed on. AC light has stayed on when car is off. Screen has turned off “check you back seat” upon leaving the car heard the engine still on 3x. At the gas station turned off the car, miles to zero reading 5, P park stays on, odometer reading on. As tank filling miles to zero rapidly increased from 5 to 300. I have a video of this. Been in for service multiple times. Presently at the dealer. They r unable to replicate this. They do not seem concerned about this. I feel it is a safety and operational concern. Prefer by car not be communicating even with itself while I’m pumping gas. They want me to pick up the car. I do not wish to. I have asked if miles to zero reading is supposed to increase real time I would like to see this is the manual or other documentation. Otherwise I feel it is a huge safety risk to have my car not shut down when I ask it to. What’s to say it won’t shut down while I’m driving 75mph on the freeway? Thank you

Multiple people I know with 2024 Hyundai Kona AWD cars are having the same problem around 10k or so miles. The AWD is locking up. Car feels like rear wheels are slipping when turning and accelerating out of a full or partial stop. This is a widespread problem on this model and I am very surprised it is not a recall yet. Many drivers are having coupler or entire rear differential replaced on their cars-some less than 1 year old, or about 1 year old.
