2022 GMC Acadia

Recalls, Specs & Safety Report

Expert Verdict
โš ๏ธElevated Concerns

The 2022 GMC Acadia has notable safety concerns due to three recalls, particularly affecting critical systems like airbags and fuel storage. Given the average failure mileage of just over 31,000 miles, vigilance is key for owners.

Key Factor:Significant safety recalls

๐Ÿ“‹Why This Matters

The safety of passengers, especially children seated in the rear, is paramount when evaluating vehicles. In this case, the recalls related to airbags, suspension, and fuel system issues highlight potential risks during collisions or accidents. An airbag not deploying correctly in a crash could lead to severe injuries or fatalities among vulnerable occupants. Additionally, a compromised fuel tank rollover valve poses risks of gasoline leaks that could ignite during a severe impact.

Summary: When looking at the year-over-year safety performance of the 2022 GMC Acadia, these recalls indicate that it falls short of expectations for reliability and passenger protection. The combination of airbag and fuel system defects raises significant concerns over its overall risk profile compared to competing SUVs.

AIR BAGS

Summary

General Motors, LLC. (GM) is recalling certain 2022 GMC Acadia vehicles. The sensing diagnostic module (SDM) may have been left in "manufacturing mode" and not activated at the assembly plant prior to shipment. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence

The air bags will not deploy with an unactivated SDM, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

The vehicles will be returned to the assembly plant for SDM activation. Both affected vehicles are still in dealer inventory and therefore no owner notification letters will be mailed. Owners may contact GMC 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212344261.

Additional Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

SUSPENSION:REAR

Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022 Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia vehicles. The left-rear suspension toe link may have been tightened improperly, which could result in a loose or separated toe link.

Consequence

A loose toe link can separate and cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect the left-rear suspension and replace the fastener if it is loose or missing, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 11, 2022. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222364330.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022 Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles. The fuel tank rollover valve may not provide a proper seal in the event of a rollover crash.

Consequence

A fuel tank rollover valve that does not properly seal can result in a fuel leak during a rollover crash, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect the fuel tank and replace the fuel tank shell if the rollover valve is found to be dislodged or missing, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 27, 2022. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N222366070.

The rear view camera fails to function intermittently and is occurring at a higher rate of frequency. On numerous occasions when the vehicle is put in reverse the screen goes black with a red triangle caution symbol and a white camera crossed out. Now the system is unavailable more then operational. Based on the drivers rear vision when backing in this particular vehicle, the lack of the rear camera view increases the risk of crash. This also increases the risk of severe injury to a pedestrian behind the vehicle. The same issues were addressed on earlier models via a safety recall which should be extended to 2023 model.

Multiple times an alert has been given for "Driver assist temporarily reduced, drive cautiously". Additionally, the check engine light has come on, with codes for the cooling system. Cooling system fan (HVAC Blower) remains on after shutting off vehicle for anywhere from 5-15 minutes. Coolant levels have been checked and are correct. Heat & AC function, however the thermostat gauge on the instrument panel does not read any temperature at all. At this time, the vehicle has not been taken to the dealership for assessment due to financial constraints.
