2023 AUDI S8

Recalls, Specs & Safety Report

Expert Verdict
⚠️Elevated Concerns

The 2023 Audi S8 demonstrates strong manufacturing quality, but the lone recall concerning the airbag assembly raises valid concerns. Ensuring that the airbag remedy is addressed is essential for safety compliance.

Key Factor:Airbag assembly defect

πŸ“‹Why This Matters

The presence of a recall related to the airbag system is significant, particularly in a luxury sedan like the Audi S8 that aims to provide top-tier safety features. Not adhering to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards can lead to serious implications in crash scenarios, which undermines the premium positioning of this model. Therefore, while it’s noteworthy that there are no complaints reported, prospective buyers should prioritize verification of recall resolution before making a purchase decision.

Summary

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2022-2023 S8 and A8 vehicles. During air bag assembly, the front-passenger occupant protection flap of the air bag may not have been folded correctly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence

In a crash, an incorrectly folded air bag can deploy with too much force, increasing the risk of injury to a child or small person who is seated and unbelted on the front passenger seat and very close to the instrument panel.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the front-passenger air bag module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 14, 2023. Owners may contact Audi's customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 69ET.

Additional Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
