ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL

Summary

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2024 Crosstrek and Impreza vehicles. Due to insufficient clearance, the instrument panel harness may contact the steering beam bracket, damaging the wire insulation and causing a short circuit.

Consequence

A short circuit may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect the harness and install an additional clamp on the steering beam bracket. If damage is found, dealers will add protective tape or replace the instrument panel harness, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 3, 2023. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRL-23.

On 12/12/2025, Subaru Orange Coast (Santa Ana, CA) service advisor stated via text: "Breaks feel fine, no issues there," "Tires no issues there," "Struts no leaks or issues," and "Car is ready for pick up." On 12/16/2025, Service Director confirmed: brake rotor defects, weak struts causing tire wear, and replaced both rear struts, tires, and "the other 2" components under warranty/customer satisfaction. CRITICAL SAFETY CONCERN: During a prior service visit, dealership performed tire rotation moving a compromised tire from rear axle to FRONT STEERING AXLE β€” where failure would cause loss of steering control. On 12/12/2025, technicians REFUSED to rotate tires because "wire was showing" β€” confirming visual identification of exposed steel cord as safety hazard. Dealership then attempted to SELL me replacement tires (profiting from condition their service created). Despite actual knowledge of exposed steel cord on steering-axle tire, service advisor texted "no issues" and attempted to release vehicle for highway operation. SEQUENCE OF DEALER CONDUCT: Rotated compromised tire to front steering axle (prior visit) Identified exposed steel cord on 12/12/2025 Refused rotation due to safety hazard Attempted to sell replacement tires Represented "no issues" via text Attempted release for public road operation DOCUMENTATION: Demand letter delivered to Subaru of America (tracking: [XXX] , received 12/16/2025). Text messages from service advisor preserved. Service Director's 12/16 acknowledgment of defects preserved. I get ads for Sirius XM that occupy navigation while the vehicle is moving. The ad does not go away on its own, i have to manually dismiss the ad. I've owned the car for one year and i've gotten about 5 of these ads for SiriusXM. I even made a Sirius account and opted out of all in-vehicle messaging and continue to get the ad. It is always while im driving. Nobody can make it stop. I never used Sirius, never signed up for their service. It came with the car and the trial lapsed.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Driver Side Mirror vibrates very badly at speeds of about 50mph and up making it difficult to see what is in the mirror. This was dangerous. I pulled off the mirror and glued foam behind it and it now vibrates less and I can see out of the mirror better but it still vibrates and distorts the mirror's image.

VISIBILITY

Since new, the image/reflection of the driver side rear view mirror shakes and unsteady at speed. The passenger side rear view mirror is rock steady and stable with a clear image/reflection. This creates a safety issue because the image I see in the mirror is distorted. This is an ongoing issue. It always happens during every drive.

I own a 2024 Subaru Impreza purchased new 7 months ago. While driving under normal conditions, a small rock entered through the factory grille and struck the air conditioning condenser. The condenser was punctured, causing refrigerant (likely R-1234yf) to escape directly into the atmosphere. This refrigerant is regulated under the U.S. EPA Clean Air Act, Section 608, due to its environmental impact and potential health risks when inhaled. The sudden, uncontrolled release of refrigerant from a poorly protected component may constitute a violation of federal environmental regulations regarding the proper containment and handling of refrigerants. This leak also poses a health and safety risk to occupants, as the refrigerant can enter the ventilation system and be inhaled by the driver and passengers, potentially causing dizziness or other symptoms. The repair facility quoted over $2,000 for replacement of a condenser that retails for approximately $300. Subaru refused warranty coverage, claiming β€œroad debris” damage. However, the condenser’s exposed position directly behind an inadequately protected grille makes it highly vulnerable to impact from small rocks under normal driving conditions β€” a foreseeable and preventable hazard. This is not an isolated incident. Multiple Subaru owners have reported similar issues Subaru has previously acknowledged condenser vulnerabilities in other contexts, issuing Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs 15-222-18 and 15-223-18R) addressing condenser assembly issues and Service Program WRB-21 for condenser corrosion in 2017–2018 Foresters. These actions demonstrate that Subaru is aware of condenser weaknesses and has taken corrective measures in the past. Given the safety risks, potential EPA refrigerant handling violations, and recurring nature of this issue across multiple Subaru models and years, I request that NHTSA investigate the grille/condenser design in the 2024 Impreza constitutes a safety defect and regulation failure

Yokohama Avid (front x2) 4UT76EX1623 and (rear x2) 4UT7EX1723 225/40R18 while the Passenger Front (4UT76EX1623) tire completely blew out the sidewall after third party inspection all 4 tires on my New 2024 Subaru Impreza are failing per the tire technician "after inspection it appears that all four tires show significant premature tire wear on the vehicle". Alignment preformed April 10, 2025 by DCH Subaru of Riverside and again alignment and suspension were checked the day after blowout of tire on July 28,2025 by American Tire Depot " no issue found with the vehicles suspension and alignment is within specs at this time". I was driving on a mountain road approximately 25 MPH when blowout occurred. Significant POP sound heard and vehicle TPS system immediately alerted us that the tire pressure dropped to 0. Tires had been maintaining tire pressure well before the incident. The "significant premature tire wear" is indicated by a noticeable crack that appears around the sidewall of all four tires as well as the steel cord showing significantly along the inner wall of the tire that blew out. This was only visible after removing the flat tire to apply the spare.

TIRES

Front driver side tire sidewall bubbled at 7900 miles on a 2024 Subaru Impreza on June 22nd. They are the original equipment tires: Yokohama Advan S34P P225/40R18 88V. A sidewall bubble is a sign of a structural failure and indicates the tire will eventually blow out. This can lead to loss of control as well as sending debris towards other road users. No warnings or tire pressure changes occurred. There was no impact, only normal highway driving prior to the damage. The damage was not present prior to 300 mile road trip, but was present upon arrival at our destination. The problem was immediately reported to Capitaland Subaru who the vehicle is leased from. Initially they refused to let me bring it in. Eventually they did get me an appointment for June 30th, and they allegedly inspected the tire at that time. They told me to keep driving on it until the warranty replacement was approved. A warranty case was never opened by the dealer. 17 days later, I received a call from the dealer saying I must open the case with Yokohama myself. The vehicle comes with a sealed kit of owner's documents and booklets including tire warranty information, but it contains Goodyear and Bridgestone warranty info and not Yokohama, which is the OEM tire on Subaru Imprezas. I had no info on my warranty nor a guide on how to submit such a claim. After searching online, I did so and gave the case number to the dealer, but I have not gotten any notification since. It has been well over a month and I've logged over 1300 miles on the damaged tire. The car now has significant vibration coming through the steering wheel as of 7/30/25. Dealer was supposed to provide a loaner but did not. The manager has made no attempt to address the issue. A complaint has been filed with Subaru corporate as well.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

My vehicle’s windshield developed an approximately 4-inch crack starting at the base of the glass without any impact point. There is no visible sign of damage or debris strike anywhere near the crack. The crack appeared suddenly and has since extended across the entire height of the windshield. Because the crack originated without any impact, it appears to be a defect in the windshield itself.

Unnecessary braking in two instances. One happened when Subarus Eyesight system mis identified a road reflector. At least that is what I saw. It happened on a 40 mile an hour highway in a curve with moderate traffic. No one directly behind me. The car had a sudden deceleration and warning. The second time came when approaching freeway speeds on an on ramp. At heavy acceleration approaching 50 miles per hour the car violently slammed on the brakes. A shadow from a tall fir tree crossed the on ramp. Again no one was behind me. It can't be good for my new car.
