The 2024 Honda Passport exhibits reliability concerns primarily tied to the fuel system, as highlighted by its recall status and the troubling average failure mileage of just over 5,000 miles. Such issues are particularly alarming in a vehicle expected to embody Honda's renowned quality and dependability.

πWhy This Matters
For consumers investing in the midsize SUV segment, reliability and safety are paramount. The 2024 Honda Passport's single recall concerning the fuel filler neck is particularly disconcerting; a failure here could lead to fuel leaks and potentially catastrophic situations. Furthermore, with an average failure mileage of only 5,233 miles, it becomes clear that problems may arise early in ownership, which diverges from the expectations typically set by Hondaβs legacy of engineering excellence.

π
Summary: Year over year, Honda has positioned itself as a leader in automotive safety and reliability. However, the presence of this recall coupled with notable complaints indicates a potential slip from their historically solid performance. This does not align with expectations for a vehicle from such a reputable brand.

Mileage Failure Analysis
βοΈEngineering Insight
The peak failure range of 0-20k miles suggests that owners may encounter issues quite soon after purchase, which can lead to dissatisfaction among early adopters. Given that Honda vehicles generally boast longevity and reliability, these early-stage failures could undermine consumer confidence in this model.

Incident # 1. June 2025 Vehicle has approximately 3400 miles on it. I was driving southbound on I 35 freeway in the Lakeville Minnesota area. I was in the center lane of the freeway traveling at about 65 mph. Traffic was light. There was no one in front of me. Suddenly, the car broke hard. I was thrust forward against the seatbelt with my hands, pushing against the steering wheel as the car slowed rapidly and came to an abrupt stop from 65 miles an hour. I had no ability to get the car to go. The gas pedal had no effect as this car came to a rapid stop. I found myself stopped in the center lane of the freeway frantically looking around to see what cars were coming, can I find the four way flashers. A car passed me in the right lane and a car passed me in the left lane. Then I was able to limp over to the shoulder out of the traffic lanes. I shut the car off immediately and tried to compose myself. After a moment or two, I turned the engine back on and the car operated normally. At the dealership they fixed some things but they said they didnβt find anything that was directly related to the unexpected rapid braking. Incident #2. July 2025 Vehicle has approximately 4300 miles I was driving northbound on 35E taking the entrance ramp to eastbound Highway 36. I was driving on the entrance ramp beginning to accelerate to highway speed. there were no vehicles in front of me, not on the ramp, or on the highway. As I neared the end of the ramp the vehicle suddenly broke hard thrusting me forward again. It came to a complete stop. Fortunately, for the second time, there was no one behind me. This was the second time the vehicle engaged the brakes in an emergency stop for no reason. The Dealership said they couldnβt find anything cause of the incident. The vehicle remains at the dealership. I have requested reimbursement of my purchase price from Honda. We have an arbitration hearing schedlued on Oct 27, 2025

I am having an issue with the turn signal / emergency flasher not making any noise while in operation. The system visual components work fine. It's the inability to hear the flashing of the signals while driving down the road This could lead to issues with other cars trying to interpret the intention of the movement of my car while I am driving. I went to the Honda dealership (Gillman Honda) service department and was informed that my particular model does not have a fix or capability for the sound level to be adjusted, whereas other models (Pilot, Accord, etc.) do have this capability. Replacement of the flasher is not an option. Could the NHTSA please create a minimum decibel level standard to help insure safe operation of vehicles on the roads.

When backing out of a driveway onto a busy street, I put the car in reverse and back out into the lane of traffic. I then put the car into drive and try to pull forward into the lane of traffic with cars coming up behind me but the car does not respond to the gas pedal for many seconds. I have almost been rear ended because of this several times.

Rotors went bad with less than 250 miles on new car. Per American Honda rotors are not defective, because Dealership didn't day were defective; therefore, not covered under warranty, considered wear and tear. Dealership initially stated the cause of the rotors going bad was me: that I was hard braking and riding the brakes; however, first, I'd only had the car about 3 months and second, I contacted the Dealership a few days after I bought the car and informed them of the problem. Next, Dealership said the rotors were bad because my aftermarket floor mats were resting on the brake; however, the mats were put there two days before. The 2024 Honda Passport rotors are defective. At the very least the rotors in the one I purchased are dedective.
