2021 CHRYSLER Voyager

Recalls, Specs & Safety Report

Expert Verdict
⚠️Elevated Concerns

The 2021 Chrysler Voyager presents significant safety concerns following two recalls related to seat and airbag systems. With an alarming peak failure range of 0-20k miles, owners should remain vigilant about these issues before they escalate.

Key Factor:Critical safety recalls

📋Why This Matters

Safety is paramount, especially for families with children in the back seat. The recalls for the Chrysler Voyager highlight critical defects: the second-row seat mounting latch may bind, which poses a serious risk if a child safety seat is not secured properly. Moreover, if the side curtain airbags fail to deploy due to an improperly secured connector, it could result in life-threatening injuries during a side impact collision. Parents must be aware of these risks and ensure their vehicle meets all federal safety standards to protect their loved ones.

The issues identified in this model are more severe than one might expect, especially given its family-focused design.

I was driving in the highway and my steering became so stiff that I could barely turn the wheel. It wasn’t just stiff, It was almost impossible to make a turn unless I use all my strength and turn the wheel with both of my hands. . It made me pull over the car and get it towed to the dealership. This was very dangerous because I couldn’t react to oncoming traffic or make regular turns on the street safely. There is no way people should be driving these cars if the power steering can go down with no warning. I could’ve hit somebody and caused a major accident on the highway. This needs to be recalled.

When we go to turn a certain way the wheel sticks while In drive, mechanic says it could be steering tie rods or rack and pinions

Steering/Suspension🔶 Medium
STEERING

The steering wheel sticks when exiting a turn, this can be reproduced on every turn. There is a risk of overcompensating steering if you do not anticipate the steering wheel sticking. There is also a vague spot in the steering when driving in a straight line, the vehicle will drift to one side and when you correct it will drift to the other side. Wheel alignment was checked and tires are in good condition. The dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed the steering problem, the steering components were replaced by the dealer and this corrected the steering problem. The were no warning lights, no messages and no sounds emanating from the steering. The vehicle was not in any accidents - to our knowledge.

Engine/Powertrain⚠️ High
POWER TRAIN

I purchased a 2021 Chrysler Voyager in August 2024 from Apple Autos in Shakopee MN. When we purchased the car, there has always been a rough idle and were assured that this was due to the automatic start/engine. Around July 2025, I began experiencing engine issues that have persisted for over two months. Initial issues were a significant rough idle and car dying. We brought the car in and repaired both batteries and replaced all the spark plugs. The issues have persisted. Symptoms include overheating, coolant loss, and misfires on cylinder 3. Diagnostics suggest a head gasket failure. This issue poses a safety risk, especially if the engine fails while driving. I’ve attempted repairs, but the problem remains unresolved. I’m concerned this may be a premature failure affecting other vehicles of the same model and engine type. There is no official recall for head gasket failure on the 2021 Chrysler Voyager, but there are numerous owner reports and forum discussions suggesting that early engine failure and head gasket issues are a concern—especially for vehicles that were former rentals or have the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, which is shared with the Chrysler Pacifica. Several Voyager owners have reported head gasket failures around 50,000–70,000 miles. These issues often appear shortly after warranty expiration, leading to costly repairs. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider whether a recall or manufacturer intervention is warranted.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

After going through rapid acceleration, van will experience electrical issue which does not allow for acceleration and triggers auto stop to fail. The electrical issue prevents the van from accelerating while in motion on a highway. This issue has persisted every year, despite replacing both the main and auxiliary batteries. Both batteries have failed within a year and recently after a week of being replaced.

My rear camera is not working properly. This started around [XXX]. Also apparently my auto stop is no longer working this is the second time this has happened to me last year end of 8/24 - 9/24 I had it fixed at a dodge dealer in New Jersey and now it has happened again. I don’t understand how in less then a year I’m dealing with the same problem I really think I was sold a lemon. POWER TRAIN

I was driving on a freeway. My car had no warning lights. Suddenly the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the car lost all power. The engine was running, but the gas pedal was unresponsive. The transmission went to neutral. I was forced to coast to the side of the road. Luckily there was somewhere to go. Someone was trying to merge as I was slowing down. It was quite scary. Once the car stopped, it put it self into park and I was stuck. After about twenty minutes, the warning lights turned off and the car drove normally. This happened 3 more time. I finally parked the car. I took it to a mechanic, but said he couldn't work on it because Chrysler hadn't released the technical information for the diagnostic system. I tried cleaning the connections to the computer and the car ran great. The next day I tried driving to work and the car died again. I was going up hill and car quickly came to a stop in front someones driveway. I tried putting the car in neutral, so that I could drift backwards out of the way. The car kept putting itself pack into park. I've had many cars break down on me over there years, but I was always able to get out of harms way by drifting to a safe location or pushing the car off the road. Being stuck in park is an unacceptable safety hazard. If the car had ever broke down on a busy freeway, I would be stopped in the middle of lane, waiting for someone to smash into me from behind.
