Recalls, Specs & Safety Report

Expert Verdict
⚠️Elevated Concerns

The 2020 BMW K 1600 GT demonstrates considerations for reliability, particularly with its recalls concerning the suspension and powertrain. The peak failure mileage of 0-20k suggests early issues may arise, warranting thorough inspection.

Key Factor:Suspension and transmission recalls

πŸ“‹Why This Matters

The recalls on the 2020 BMW K 1600 GT highlight significant concerns around critical components such as the rear suspension and manual transmission. Insufficient strength in the link strut may lead to potential safety risks, while issues with transmission hardness can compromise gear engagement. Such defects can not only lead to an unpleasant riding experience but also increase repair costs for current owners and pose risks for prospective buyers who may not be aware of these vulnerabilities.

SUSPENSION:REAR

Summary

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2020 K1600 GT, K1600 GTL, and K1600 B motorcycles. The link strut connecting the rear suspension to the frame may have insufficient strength, which can cause the link strut to become damaged.

Consequence

A damaged link strut can cause the rear of the motorcycle to contact the rear wheel, affecting riding stability and control, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the rear link strut, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters to inform owners of the safety risk were mailed on March 11, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed June 21, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
